The worst Ebola outbreak in history occurred in West Africa from 2014 to 2016, infecting almost 30,000 people and killing more than 11,000.

Uganda on Wednesday confirmed that three Ebola cases been recorded.

Health officials from Uganda and DR Congo, above, met immediately to discuss the situation. Two of his relatives also tested positive for the virus, in the first ever cross-border case.

According to the United Nations agency it may not be possible to contain DR Congo's latest Ebola outbreak to two affected provinces in the country's east if violent attacks on health workers and treatment centres continue.

Authorities in both countries now vow to step up border security. A WHO expert committee has twice decided that the outbreak, while of "deep concern", is not yet a global health emergency.

He said some of them dated back to Poland's communist past and that he wanted to remove them as part of judicial reforms. The other issue that dominated talks between the two leaders was that of energy supply.

A World Health Organization spokesman says the director general might convene a third meeting after two previous ones decided this Congo-based outbreak was not yet fit for a declaration.

Almost 1,400 people are confirmed or believed to have died from Ebola in the DRC during the current outbreak, according to World Health Organization figures released Monday. There is no licensed treatment for the hemorrhagic fever which can spread quickly via close contact with bodily fluids of those infected and can be fatal in up to 90 percent of cases. "We, therefore, have three confirmed cases of Ebola in Uganda", the WHO Uganda posted on its Twitter account, citing a briefing from Ugandan Health Minister Ruth Aceng in Kasese in the country's west.

The confirmed case is a 5 year old boy who travelled from the Democratic republic Of Congo (DRC) with his family on 9th June 2019. "All suspected cases, especially for those found with temperatures above 38 degrees, must be quarantined", he said.

Since August when the DRC's latest outbreak began, the CDC has been helping the DRC government with the outbreak response and has deployed experts on epidemiology, case management, infection control and prevention, laboratory science, border health, risk communication, community engagement, information technology, emergency management, and logistics.

An experimental drug is being used in DR Congo at least 1,300 people have lost their lives to the virus.

Authorities are trying to determine how the family, exposed to the virus, managed to cross the border.

Yet there has always been concern that the Ebola virus would jump a border, and WHO Uganda now reports three confirmed cases in the Kasese district.

Eastern Congo also borders South Sudan, which is struggling to emerge from five years of devastating civil war and whose health facilities are basic even in the capital. The boy's younger brother and grandmother are also sick, in a worrying sign of the disease's spread beyond the large outbreak in the neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Eight people had been in contact with the confirmed cases and are being followed up on, the Ugandan Ministry of Health said in a statement. The child was transferred to Bwera Ebola Treatment Unit for management.
