"However, many of these people had other serious illnesses that also increased their risk of death", the CDC said.

A risky, emerging fungus that is resistant to antifungal drugs is becoming an increasing health concern around the world.

Individuals with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of the C. auris.

A drug-resistant superbug fungus has sickened almost 600 people across the United States in recent years, including more than 300 patients in New York State, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. He died 90 days later, while traces of the fungus were found in every corner of his room.

The first case in Singapore was detected in a 52-year-old Singapore-born woman who suffered several limb fractures following a traffic accident in India in 2012. Tests showed it was everywhere in his room, so invasive that the hospital needed special cleaning equipment and had to rip out some of the ceiling and floor tiles to eradicate it. The CDC reported 45% of the clinical case-patients died within 90 days. The first involved a 24-year-old Bangladeshi male who flew to Singapore to seek medical treatment, while the second involved a 69-year-old USA male citizen who was suffering from a lung disease.

"Based on information from a limited number of patients, 30-60% of people with C. auris infections have died".

According to the CDC, symptoms of the fungus may be hard to detect because patients are often already sick and only a lab test can identify the superbug.

New Jersey had another 105 confirmed cases.

Another outbreak occurred at a hospital in Spain in 2018.
