Budget showdown looms over Trump's expected request for border wall funding

Trump's request would come in his proposed budget for fiscal year 2020.

Mexican and USA officials outside of Trump are in agreement the country's southern neighbor has no intention of paying the billions in wall costs, particularly after this latest request for US taxpayer dollars. The budget proposal will also include another $3.6 million in military construction funding to make up for any projects delayed by the wall, officials said.

Asked whether Trump's new border funding request signals that a new budget fight is coming, White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow responded, "I suppose there will be".

'I suppose there will be. "So, yes, he's going to stay with his wall, and he's going to stay with the border security and I think it's essential", Kudlow said. We have a crisis down there.

"He's going to stay with his wall, and he's going to stay with the border security theme", Kudlow continued.

The request would more than double the $8.1 billion already available to the president after he declared a national emergency at the border in order to circumvent Congress after lawmakers refused his funding demands. That standoff led to a 35-day partial government shutdown, the longest in US history. Some of those barriers are replacing fences that previously had existed, and Democrats have said routinely Trump erroneously claims credit for building walls that either don't exist or are far from being completed. Eventually, Trump relented and reopened the government.

Trump wanted $5.7 billion but Congress appropriated only $1.375 billion.

It limited funds to 'operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the [2017 funding law] such as now deployed steel bollard designs, that prioritize agent safety'.

Democrats, who oppose the wall as unnecessary and immoral, control the House of Representatives.

But after the government funding was settled in February, President Trump then announced a national emergency that would allow him to spend $8 billion to build his wall. The Democratic-led House already did so, and Trump's Republican allies in the Senate, uneasy over his move, are expected to follow suit.

On Monday, the 2015 US PGA Championship victor had an MRI which revealed an an annular tear in the L4/L5 disc. Day said he still aims to recover in time for next week's Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

A number of lawsuits have since been filed against the national emergency, and the Senate is set to pass a resolution that disapproves of the move.

The Trump administration is headed for a budget clash with Congress, with calls for deep domestic spending cuts that lawmakers are likely to ignore as the nation's debt reaches record levels.

In a new spin on what has become a consistent ploy, the U.S. president will again seek to gain congressional approval for his favorite 2016 campaign promise: the construction of an impassable wall to separate the border between the United States and Mexico, according to multiple reports.

The 2020 budget proposal will undoubtedly keep border security a top issue as the presidential election gets underway.

The US Congress must rule on a final version of the fiscal 2020 bill by October 1st, or face a new government shut down.
