Erdogan said. He added that he wanted Saudi Arabia to send the suspects to Turkey for trial.

As the Trudeau government faces increasing pressure to cancel a $15 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia - a move that the prime minister warns would leave Canadians "holding a billion-dollar bill" - most other Western countries, with the exception of Germany, have done little more than condemn the slaying of dissident Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi.

She said Australia was working closely with its allies and partners, but was awaiting the outcomes of the Saudi investigation.

Maha Yahya, director of the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, speculated that Saudi Arabia could now be vulnerable to pressure, including from the USA, to end a boycott of Turkey-backed Qatar.

Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, has been forced to escape a room full of attendees at his own investment forum as he was overrun by people hoping to get a picture with him.

"To blame such an incident on a handful of security and intelligence members would not satisfy us or the global community", he said.

The Turkish president said Saudi Arabia admitted to the killing. He used the word "murder" 15 times in his speech to parliament.

CIA Director Gina Haspel is reportedly in Turkey to assess the intelligence related to a crime that has galvanized the world's attention and cast a spotlight on the U.S. -Saudi relationship and the burgeoning role of Saudi money in American tech companies.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said on Sunday that Khashoggi's killing was part of a rogue operation and that his government would punish those responsible for his "murder".

Associated Press writers Suzan Fraser, Zeynep Bilginsoy and Bram Janssen in Istanbul; Aya Batrawy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Deb Riechmann in Washington contributed.

Erdogan did not blame Crown Prince Mohammed by name in his speech.

Calling Khashoggi "the victim of a savage murder", Erdogan said that ignoring the murder would "hurt the human conscience".

Trump administration could rollback transgender protections and initiatives from Obama era
By undermining civil rights protections for transgender people, Trump would try to legalize discrimination against trans people. Trump would be reversing Obama-era policy and guidance which helped recognise transgender students under existing federal law.

That leaves open questions such as whether the Saudi operation in Istanbul was always meant to result in Khashoggi's death or whether the original plan was to kidnap and transport him to Saudi Arabia. We are seeking answers. "Who did these people get their orders from to go (to Turkey)?"

While Saudi officials initially denied knowing anything about Khashoggi's whereabouts, they said on Friday the journalist was killed after a fist fight broke out inside the consulate. The case has shocked the world and raised suspicions that a Saudi hit squad planned the writer's killing after he walked into the consulate on October 2, and then attempted to cover it up.

Saudi state media on Tuesday published photos of Jamal Khashoggi's son Salah Khashoggi with Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. It also contradicts many observers who believe the complex scheme that led to Khashoggi's death could not have occurred without the knowledge of the crown prince, who controls all major levers of power in the kingdom with the blessing of his father, King Salman.

Saudi Arabia's foreign minister, meanwhile, said Tuesday the investigation into the killing of Khashoggi would produce the truth about what happened and that his country was committed to ensuring "that the investigation is thorough and complete and that the truth is revealed and that those responsible will be held to account".

Trump told reporters that Erdogan was pretty tough on Saudi Arabia.

Jamal Khashoggi's fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, was also placed under 24-hour police protection by Turkish authorities earlier this week. A friend of the Khashoggi family told The Associated Press that Salah has been under a travel ban since past year. Mario Ritter was the editor. Susan Shand adapted this story for Learning English.
