Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen dies at the age of 65

Allen co-founded Microsoft in 1975 with Bill Gates and served on the company's board of directors until 2000.

Allen and Gates, both college dropouts, hatched the idea for Microsoft in Albuquerque.

During his lifetime, Allen had given more than $2 billion to Philanthropy and has been involved with many different business ventures including pushing the Seattle Seahawks in 1996. Our hearts are with Paul's family and loved ones.

The first versions of two classic Microsoft products, Microsoft Word and the Windows operating system, were released in 1983.

Microsoft was thrust onto the throne of technology and soon Gates and Allen became billionaires.

Allen was a huge music fan, especially of Jimi Hendrix, and founded The Experience Music Project Museum in Seattle.

Allen went on to set up numerous scientific research institutes including the Allen Institute of Brain Science, the Institute for Cell Science and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence; he also owned or co-owned several professional sports teams, including the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers, NFL's Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer.

He also owned Portland's Moda Center, Seattle's Cinerama Theater and London's Hospital Club, which is planning a Los Angeles branch.
