A Republican U.S. senator who could be pivotal in determining whether President Donald Trump's nominee Brett Kavanaugh gets to sit on the Supreme Court raised concerns on Tuesday about the judge's "partisan" tone at last week's hearing into sexual misconduct allegations.

Investigators with the FBI on Sunday interviewed the Boulder woman who said Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a college party in the early 1980s, a source close to the investigation told The Denver Post.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., who sought a week-long delay in a full Senate vote, said Tuesday that he is pushing the White House for "a fulsome investigation" of the allegations against Kavanaugh.

When asked about conflicting reports of whether Trump himself was limiting the scope of the FBI's investigation into Kavanaugh, the President attempted to clear things up by punting responsibility to the Senate. "I guess I want to say, 'Thank you, '" Walsh said.

"I was, principally, concerned about helping my friend listen to his doubts and his conscience", Coons said of Flake.

"We don't want to go on a witch hunt, do we?" Last week, a triumvirate of Republican senators - Jeff Flake of Arizona, Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska - vowed to withhold support for the nominee unless the White House allowed a supplemental background check into claims of sexual assault against Kavanaugh from California university professor Christine Blasey Ford.

They forced the White House to open a supplemental background investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against the judge.

The most senior Democrat on the Senate's Judiciary Committee, Dianne Feinstein, has sent a letter urging the White House to release the written directive sent by President Trump to the FBI launching the investigation.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was accused of throwing ice at a man during an altercation at a bar while in college.

Both Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the first woman to come forward to accuse the Supreme Court nominee of sexual assault, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

In speaking to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, Deborah Ramirez detailed her allegation that Mr Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party in the early 1980s when they were students at Yale University, according to a person familiar with the matter.

"It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover".

"When Brett got drunk, he was often belligerent and aggressive", said Chad Ludington. That includes Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge. Mr Kavanaugh has denied Ms Ramirez's allegation. "And that's something that they would highlight in this summary, and then that'll be submitted to the White House and ultimately Congress".

Trump also suggested at one point that some of Kavanaugh's questioners have secrets of their own.

President Trump ordered the FBI to investigate the sexual malfeasance claims against Kavanaugh after Senator Jeff Flake caved to the Democrat's demands because two leftist activist women shrieked at him in an elevator.

"He has grossly mischaracterized his relationship with alcohol", Schumer said, characterizing Kavanaugh as someone who "tiptoes around the truth". The protesters wanted Manchin to commit to opposing Kavanaugh's potential confirmation to the court.

Arguing that anyone could be subjected to the scrutiny facing Kavanaugh, Trump claimed he has seen at least one senator in a "compromising position". A frequent Trump critic, he said he would like if "someone" attempted a primary run against the sitting president.

Trump's Republicans control the Senate by a 51-49 margin. He also accused Democrats of orchestrating a political "hit" against him.
