Manchester United outcast Daley Blind is closing in on a return to former club Ajax to end his recent Old Trafford nightmare with an expected €21 million deal.

The 28-year-old has fallen out of favor under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, and BBC reports that a deal has been agreed to take Blind back to his former side.

Blind, who has also been linked with Inter Milan and Roma, returned to Carrington on Wednesday for the start of preseason training.

Blind will move to Ajax for a fee of £14.1m, which could rise to £18.5m, meaning Man United have recouped the majority of what they paid for him back in 2014 (around £15.5m).

Blind, a Dutch global, previously spent four years with the Ajax senior club before moving over to United four summers ago.

"I think it's no secret that we [Ajax] are still looking for a central defender and, if possible, it would be a great addition for Ajax to have a player with the quality of Daley to fit in the team". Under Mourinho, he has failed to establish either as a regular or even a position from the bench, with his appearance numbers dropping drastically in the two seasons under the Portuguese.

There had been talk of selling both Blind and Darmian for quite some time, but United are well aware of how expensive replacement players will be and thus seek all they can get in return.

However, Blind struggled for form and fitness last season and barely featured during Mourinho's second season at the club.
